Kirby Sack
Chief Executive Officer

CEO of Sack Properties, Kirby Sack has been responsible for all phases of leadership and management since 1989.  Sack Properties provides opportunities for both institutional and high net worth private investors to earn cash flow and appreciation by investing in West Coast multifamily real estate while providing residents with high quality rental housing. Under her leadership, the firm has expanded into new markets and formed many single purpose entities, a series of institutional programmatic joint ventures, and three discretionary funds, all for the ownership and acquisition or development of apartments and condominiums.  Prior to entering the real estate business, Kirby was a small business lender and taught seminars in small business finance.

Kirby is currently a member of the policy advisory board of the Fisher Center for Real Estate and Urban Economics at the University of California at Berkeley, and a member of the National Multi-Housing Council, and Lambda Alpha International, and presents at industry conferences. She also serves on the board of directors of The Swig Company.

She was also a founding board member and chair of the Northern California Community Loan Fund, and served as a member of the board of directors and executive committees of the San Francisco Chamber of Commerce and the San Francisco Bay Area Planning and Urban Research Association (SPUR), and on the board of the Yale School of Management Alumni Association.

Kirby has a B.A. from Harvard University and an M.B.A. from the Yale School of Organization and Management.

Jeff Smith
President and Chief Financial Officer

Jeff Smith is currently the firm’s President and Chief Financial Officer. He joined Sack Properties in 2001, and is responsible for corporate finance, accounting, reporting and overseeing all acquisition activities. Jeff also served as the firm’s Controller from 2001-2007.

Prior to Sack Properties, Jeff worked for Ernst & Young in their audit practice where he was responsible for on-site management of all phases of the audit process. His clients included Farallon Capital, TRW, and National Technical Systems. He also participated in the initial public offering of Endwave Technologies (ENWV).  Prior to Ernst & Young, Jeff worked for The Walt Disney Company, Los Angeles Dodgers, and North American Honda Corporation.

Jeff currently is the Chair of the San Francisco District Council of the Urban Land Institute (ULI). He also serves on the ULI Multi-Family Blue Product Council and is a member of the National Multi-Housing Council and the USC Northern California Alumni Club.

Jeff has a B.S. in Business Administration from the University of Southern California.

David Feinberg
Chief Investment Officer

David Feinberg is currently the firm’s Chief Investment Officer. He joined Sack Properties in 2017, and is responsible for all acquisition and disposition activities.

Prior to Sack Properties, David was a Vice President of Acquisitions with Sares Regis, with primary acquisition responsibility for value-add multifamily properties in the Bay Area and Pacific Northwest. He closed on $333M in apartment transactions while at Sares Regis. Before joining Sares, David served as vice president of acquisitions at RREEF. He was responsible for identifying, negotiating, underwriting and closing purchases, both direct and joint venture, of more than $300 million in properties for RREEF clients. Prior to RREEF, David was Vice President with Sterling Education Properties, where he was responsible for more than $60 million in student housing acquisitions. Prior to Sterling Education Properties, David was with Archstone Smith, where he was in the acquisitions group covering the Pacific Northwest first and later the East Coast through the Boston office.

David has a B.A. from the University of Puget Sound and an M.B.A. Northwestern University – Kellogg.

Tiffanie M. Byrd
Director of Property Management

Tiffanie Byrd currently serves as Director of Property Management for Sack Properties’ portfolio of west coast multifamily communities. She oversees and leads all property management activities including staffing, marketing, budgeting, maintenance, policies, procedures, and transitioning assets on purchase and sale.

Tiffanie joined Sack Properties following almost 6 years with UDR as a Regional Manager leading a portfolio of 2300 apartments and $85 million in annual revenue. In this role she executed consistent growth strategies, delivering expectation exceeding dividends for investors. She created a culture of care and inclusion, developed strong on-site teams, implemented industry leading technology solutions, and contributed to value-add capital design concepts for properties in her portfolio.

Prior to joining UDR, Tiffanie served as a General Manager for Carmel Partners, Archstone Apartments and Avalon Bay Communities following an 18 year career in the hospitality industry.

Tiffanie has a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Canterbury University.

Bill Gerhardt
Director of Capital Improvements 

Bill Gerhardt currently serves as the firm’s Director of Capital Improvements, responsible for all capital improvement projects across the portfolio. Bill also manages the physical due diligence for all new acquisitions.

Bill has 14 years of experience in real estate renovation, construction and facilities management. His principal strengths are in leading diverse teams to successfully complete projects on time, on budget and with high quality, establishing strong relationships with suppliers and service providers, and motivating others to consistently achieve outstanding results.

Prior to joining Sack Properties, Bill was a Vice President of Capital Projects with Carmel Partners, Throckmorton Partners, and ATC Partners, in addition to doing the same for his own investment properties. Before his career in real estate, he worked in finance and business consulting.

Bill has a B.A. in Quantitative Economics from the University of California San Diego and an M.B.A. from Stanford University Graduate School of Business. He also holds a California Real Estate Broker’s license.

Paul Sack
Founder and Advisor

With the exception of seven years as a department store executive in the 1950’s and four years on the Peace Corps staff in the 1960’s,  Paul Sack has spent his entire career in real estate. He founded The Paul Sack Properties in 1958 and subsequently formed 13 partnerships for the ownership, development or acquisition of multifamily residential properties, including rental apartments, for-sale condominiums and land for homebuilders.

Paul was the founder of The RREEF Funds, (now known as Deutsche Asset and Private Wealth Management), chiefly for pension funds, through offices across the United States and around the world. Now retired from RREEF, he has returned to participation in Sack Properties in an advisory role.

Paul has served on the boards of BRIDGE Housing Corporation, Golden West Financial Corporation, and a number of nonprofit philanthropic organizations. He is also a former trustee and regional vice president of the International Council of Shopping Centers. He is a former trustee of the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and is an emeritus trustee of the San Francisco Art Institute.

Paul has an A.B. from Harvard University, an M.B.A. from the Harvard Business School and a Ph.D. from the University of California at Berkeley.
